About Me:

My name is Courtney Drake. This is my second year as one of the school counselors at North Elementary. I was born and raised in Parkersburg, WV, but moved to Morgantown to pursue a bachelor's degree in Psychology in 2007. After college, I took a year off to explore my career interests and landed a job in mental health at Chestnut Ridge Hospital. I quickly became interested in the field of counseling and chose to focus my studies on School Counseling at West Virginia University for my master's degree. After school, I was fortunate enough to be offered the school counseling position in Monongalia County between North and Eastwood Elementary schools. I am excited for this new year and looking forward to working with the students again! Please contact me at anytime regarding questions or concerns that you may have.

What school counselors do:

-Work with individuals on academic, personal/social, career topics.
-Work with students in groups on topics such as leadership, divorce, bullying, etc.
-Classroom lessons on counseling related topics.
-If we think that a child may need consistent therapy, we may refer outside of the school to a community therapist who can meet that need of the student.

Events coming up:

Camp Caring. This is a FREE 1 day bereavement camp for children ages 6-14, and the adults who love them on Saturday November 11th, 2017.

This camp is to help support children and teens in WV who have lost a loved one in recent years. They will focus on small and large group activities and empower each child to express their grief and successfully cope with the feelings of loss and trauma. The camp will also run optional concurrent sessions for the adult(s) in the child's life. The purpose is that each family member is individually strengthened and supported so that the entire family can move forward together to a place of new normal.
