First Electric School Bus Delivered to MCS

December 14, 2023

After ceremoniously driving the new electric bus into the garage at the MCS' Transportation Center, Superintendent Campbell was officially given the keys to the vehicle by Michael Perez of GreenPower Motor Company at today's media conference.

Monongalia County's Nano BEAST (Battery Electric Automotive School Transportation) was the first to be rolled off the assembly line at GreenPower's South Charleston manufacturing facility this year.

Mark Nestlen, Vice President of Business Development for GreenPower, stated that when Delegate Joe Statler showed support for the all-electric initiative and drove a GreenPower bus to help launch the pilot program, he wanted to ensure that the first bus off the line would go to Monongalia County. Today, Nestlen made the trek to Morgantown and Delegate Statler personally attended GreenPower's special delivery to Monongalia County Schools.

Statler spoke highly of the safe, zero-emission buses and asked the transportation team to keep him informed of the differences they see in performing maintenance on the new bus.

Monongalia County Schools will receive its second GreenPower Nano BEAST, to include the Access option, in the first quarter of 2024.
